Two police officers were shot outside the Ferguson police department
headquarters early on Thursday morning, acting Ferguson police chief Lt.
Col. Al Eickhoff confirmed. Gunfire erupted during protests following
the resignation of Ferguson Police Head, Thomas Jackson as angry
scuffles broke out between officers and members of the public.
According to the witnesses, the two officers were struck outside the police
department building and were rushed to Barnes-Jewish Hospital for
treatment. A few dozen demonstrators fled following the sound with some
screaming, 'They hit a cop,' around midnight, a photographer with
Reuters said. After the shooting some protesters fell to the ground and
others ran. A huge police presence later surrounded the department.
